Washington:

US President Donald Trump found himself in the midst of fierce controversy after he was seen scratching his forehead with his middle finger when a NASA female astronaut corrected him during a video call to the International Space Station (ISS).

During a video call to US astronaut Jessica Meir and her colleague Christina Koch at the International Space Station, Trump congratulated them on being the first two female astronauts to walk in space.

"We are delighted to be able to speak directly with two brave American astronauts who made history join us during their space trips … And this is the first time for a woman outside the space station," said the US President, who was accompanied by his daughter, Ivanka Trump

However, Mrs. Meir examined the President and said that they were not the first female astronauts to walk in space. In fact, it was "the first time there were two women outside" at the same time.

After the astronaut corrected Mr. Trump, he was seen scratching his forehead with his middle finger.

Trump's movements don't go well with Twitter users, who accuse him of turning his middle finger towards astronauts.

"He gave them the middle finger after they corrected his erroneous remarks. How to become president," commented a user.

Another user wrote: "Did Trump give him a finger when he corrected him?"

A Twitter user stated, "There is absolutely no accidental way."

Ms Meir and Koch's historic space vehicle for eight hours lasted last week.

Their job is to repair the damaged part of the ISS solar power network.
