Taco Bell has a new menu item that makes it compete with chicken chains such as Chick-fil-A and Popeyes.
Taco Bell said it would begin testing new crispy chicken tortilla tenders in Houston, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, on Thursday before launching a menu item nationally next year. Customers can try tenders in tacos for $ 2, or get two tenders for $ 3 or three tenders for $ 4. They can also get them in $ 5 and $ 7 chain boxes.
Taco Bell said it had tested more than 100 tender versions of chicken before deciding on the final recipe.
Tender new chicken marinated in jalapeño butter mixture, giving them a slightly spicy kick. They are coated with tortilla crumbs and served with new sauce. When Business Insider, Kate Taylor recently tried a new menu item at Taco Bell headquarters, she said that the flavor profile of her sauce was somewhat similar to the sauce at Chick-fil-A or Raising Cane's.
Many fast food chains are trying to find innovative ways to serve chicken – whether it's between two Popeyes buns, dipped in Chick-fil-A sauce, or dripping in Nashville hot oil – and Taco Bell is no exception.
With the addition of chicken tenders to its menu, the California-based chain is ready to compete with popular chicken chains such as Chick-fil-A, Popeyes, and Raising Cane's, all of which have seen recent growth.
Improving Cane saw sales growth across the entire system by 22.5% last year, making it one of the fastest growing chains in America, according to Nation's Restaurant News data. Chick-fil-A, meanwhile, ruled as America's favorite fast food chain in a recent Business Insider survey.
However, Popeyes made more waves than any other chicken chain in 2019 with his chicken sandwich, which has dominated the scene since it was re-launched after it was initially sold out.
We can only wait to anticipate whether Taco Bell tenders will cause a commotion.
