Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea announced the search for the crew had completed their work looking for human remains at Camp Fire to burn the scarred area at a press conference in Chico Wednesday.
This is a big step forward in trying to reopen the areas that remain evacuated. Sheriff warned that the plan could change if weather conditions create additional security problems.
The number of people killed in the fire remained at 88 and the sheriff said they had identified 35 of the remains.
Remnants of 6 people remain unidentified. Sheriff added the number of undiscovered people to stand at 196.
It's possible that people will find remnants after they are allowed to return to the evacuation zone and the sheriff urges them to contact the sheriff's office if they find remnants.
