In Kiev, the Ukrainian star jumper press conference to water Ilya Kvasha, who announced the end of his sports career, took place.
What is fun and unusual for Ukrainian sports is that the press conference was attended by the Minister of Youth and Sports Igor Zhdanov, President of the Ukrainian National Olympic Committee Sergey Bubka, and President of the Federation Jumping to Water Igor Lysov, who spoke about the importance of Ilya Kvasha for Ukrainian sports.
"It's very difficult to make such a decision, but, unfortunately, life sets its own rules for us. By coincidence, I have to end my sports career. Believe me, I want to continue to glorify Ukraine, my federation in the international arena. I want with all my heart and my soul to bring another medal from the Olympic Games. All the strength and emotion was directed at the match in Tokyo. But that was the situation, so I had to announce that I finished my sports career.
You know, this is more than 20 brilliant years of my life. And on this road I am supported by the closest and dearest people – my coach Tatyana Maryanko, Federation represented by Igor Lysov, NOC, together with Sergey Nazarovich Bubka, with whom we passed three Olympics, the Ministry.
Even though I finished my career, sports will remain in my life. Now, in particular, I have started my activities as a mentor, working with amateurs. We run amateur league diving. We broaden our horizons to bring our sport to the masses. For more people to know about sports. I will try to continue to make every effort to benefit the sport of Ukraine ", – said Ilya Kvasha at a press conference.
With words of support and a desire for success, Sergey Bubka replied:
"For every athlete, completing a career is a challenge, because you have to start everything from scratch, to manifest yourself in a new field. I remember when I made this choice myself – it was very difficult, there were many thoughts, doubts. your sincerity, "and openness, striving for sustainable development, I am sure that you, Ilya, will succeed in a new role," Sergey Nazarovych said, giving the athlete a warning sign "For loyalty to Olympism" from the Ukrainian Olympic family.
"I am very grateful to Ilya for the contribution he made to the development and socialization of diving in Ukraine. I really respect him. I really want to take part in his destiny further and I am very happy he remains in our sport.
