Weight loss itself is difficult because the real challenge is to maintain long-term weight, and recent research shows that how to maintain current weight for a longer period of time, maybe to get rid of carbohydrates.
According to Mirror, a researcher from Boston Children's Hospital in Colorado, said that eating less carbohydrates increases the number of calories burned, which helps keep weight longer.
The study involved 234 overweight adults who took the 10-week weight loss diet, 164 of whom achieved the goal of losing 10 to 14 percent of their body weight to move to the next stage. The participants were divided into 3 groups. High carbohydrate diet, moderate second, and low follow-up for 20 weeks.
The group, which follows a low-carbohydrate diet, burns about 250 more calories per day than those who eat high-carbohydrate foods, the study found.
"If this difference continues, and we don't see a decline in the 20 weeks of our study, the effect will translate to 20-pound weight loss after 3 years, without changes in calories," said Dr. Kara Eppling, who led the study.
The researchers note that this effect can be reduced to high insulin levels in response to a high carbohydrate diet, this increase in insulin encourages fat cells to store excess calories.
