A secret start-up introduces the electric pick-up that Tesla wants to have
Out of nowhere, a start-up from the US has presented two electric vehicles, which are scheduled to go into production in 2020. Interestingly, Rivian is not a beginner to electric cars, but a company that has been around for nine years. Already in 2009, Rivian was founded by MIT graduate R. J. Scaringe – at that time even Tesla Model S was not on the market.
Since then, Rivian has been secretly fiddling with two vehicles and growing into a strong 500 million company with more than 600 employees. Investments for most are from Saudi Arabia and Japan. The aim of the company is to bring electric propulsion to the world of adventure vehicles.
This pickup comes in three different versions, all of which are limited to 200 kilometers per hour. Each pick-up wheel is driven by its own electric motor. Planned are 105, 135 and 180 kWh configurations, with the best models having a range of up to 640 kilometers. It is charged up to 160 kW, with a fast charge providing 80 percent battery capacity in just 50 minutes.

For the body, Rivian relies on a double cabin and four doors for a typical US pick-up truck format. So that one can experience a neat adventure with a 5.50 meter vehicle, having a depth of one meter and a tilt of 45 degrees. According to Rivian, you can pull the trailer load up to five tons by pick-up and load a maximum of 800 kilograms. The strongest version must be the middle, which has the equivalent of around 750 hp (562 kW). This will take you from zero to one hundred kilometers per hour in three seconds.
On the same platform from the pick-up, Rivian also built an R1S SUV. The skateboard platform is called developed by start-ups especially for electric cars and will later serve as the basis for the crossover model. Rivian even wants to share the platform with other manufacturers if needed.
Both vehicles are being built at the former Mitsubishi factory in the US. Until the first production model but the recording goes on, you have to be patient. According to Rivian, the pick up offered is 92 percent of finished cars from the production model. By 2020, they must be produced – but not more than 50,000 units per year. In comparison, Tesla produces more than 80,000 cars per quarter.
In the US, cars can now be ordered in advance for a deposit of $ 1,000. Prices, both models range from $ 69,000 to $ 100,000, depending on the model. Either Rivian took his vehicle to Europe, the start-up had not yet been announced.
With their pickup, Rivian challenged the Tesla pioneer. Elon Musk has confirmed several times that work is also being done at the pick-up at Teslav Cork and it looks very futuristic. However, according to Musk, the Y and 3 models and Tesla trucks are even more important now. (Pls)
