Fatal disease – found in several variants – affects the central nervous system of deer, with emaciation, behavior changes and movement disorders as symptoms. Two big deer who were sick in Arjeplog and Arvidsjaur were killed.
"When CWD cases are detected in an EU program, sampling will be expanded in areas where the disease has been found. More samples provide a better basis for assessing the spread of the disease in the area and the possible infectivity. Therefore, there are requirements in the law. the EU law on increasing sampling on CWD findings, "said Maria Cedersmyg of the Swedish Agricultural Council in a press release.
CWD cases have also been found in Norway and Finland. This disease is diagnosed in Europe for the first time in 2016.
