For the second night in a row, the sea flooded the coast, and due to the strengthening in the south, occasional flooding could occur today. According to Ars’s forecast, due to heavy rains, water flow in western Slovenia will increase today, especially in the Julian Alps, the risk of landslides will increase. The orange weather warning applies in the western part of the country.
How bad it was on the Slovenian coast was revealed from footage published on Strunjan’s Facebook page, which was completely submerged in water, but later also deleted.
The river will overflow
Due to possible heavy rain, a yellow weather warning has been issued for central Slovenia today. Smaller rivers and streams can rise and overflow at a smaller rate.
The sea flooded the coast from the evening. In Piran, due to high tides and strong southern winds, the Koper Regional Information Center turned on a public siren at 11:32 p.m. with a warning warning.
The sea flooded the embankments of Punta, Prešeren and Kidričevo, as well as parts of Cankarjevo. Piran firefighters and neighborhood workers orchestrated the attack in front of Tartini Square, according to the information center. In Izola, only part of the sidewalk on Veliki trg is flooded in the middle of the night.
The Environment Agency of the Republic of Slovenia (Arso) issued an orange weather warning for northwestern Slovenia today due to predictions of heavy rain and a high risk of avalanches. Due to heavy rain, an orange weather alert was issued for the southwest of the country today.
Tributaries in areas for which orange weather warnings have been issued can flood along the riverbed in areas that are frequently flooded. Disruption of traffic and supply of electricity and drinking water may also occur. Landslides may occur.
As the Geological Survey of Slovenia shows, the probability of landslides in western Slovenia has increased recently, and landslides could also be triggered in other parts of Slovenia. Residents are reminded to pay attention to changes in land, buildings and slopes. They must pay special attention to new cracks, subsidence and landslides, and waterlogging.
Due to a combination of snow cover, reversal of temperature and high altitude south-to-east winds, sinking in Slovenia is, according to Ars, “a very unusual temperature picture”.
