REUTERS: British Sports Chief Executive Liz Nicholl will leave his role in the summer of 2019 after 20 years in a leadership position in the organization, the UK government agency said on Tuesday http://www.uksport.gov.uk/news/2018/11/13 Nicholl-announces-intention-to-step-down-after-amazing-20-year-old in the UK.
Nicholl joined British sport in 1999 and has played an important role in the growth of GB and Paralympic Team GB through a performance-centered investment strategy.
In his first 10 years, Nicholl led the work of the Directorate of Performance before taking over as chief executive in 2010.
During his tenure, London hosted the 2012 Olympics, with Team GB taking third place in the medal tally with 65 medals. This was followed by finishing in second place at the 2016 Rio Olympics with 67 achievements.
"I have shared a very special journey with everyone who has been part of our high-performance system that has been very successful for the past 20 years," Nicholl said in a statement.
"Our athletes are undoubtedly among the best prepared and supported in the world and I am confident that we can continue to build on the success of the recent matches."
UK Sport said it would start looking for a replacement for Nicholl to ensure a smooth and handover transition ahead of the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
