(Agence Ecofin) – Tunisia's National Telecommunications Authority (INT) will launch a new regulatory service tomorrow, November 29, 2018, which will enable telecommunications customers to limit the volume of SMS advertisements received from telecommunications companies.

The service, called "STOP SMS", is the result of an agreement signed last April, between telecommunications regulators and the National Agency for Personal Data Protection (INPDP) and the Consumer Protection Organization (ODC). This can be executed via a toll free number which will be published by INT on Thursday.

For customers who are not satisfied with the number of promotional messages and advertisements received throughout the day and even late at night, telecom regulators' actions reflect a stronger involvement in protecting the interests of consumers. Along with INPDP, the new INT service also reflects a reminder to Maroc Telecom, Orange and Inwi about using consumer personal data.

Article 27 Organic Law No. 63 of July 27, 2004 concerning the protection of personal data stipulates that "Except for cases provided by this law or applicable law, the processing of personal data can only be done with the written consent of the person concerned".
