Ethiopia's national airline, Ethiopian Airlines, announced on Wednesday that it would arrange a January January visa service for Chinese who want to visit 35 African countries.
The CEO, Tewolde Gebremariam, told Xinhua that due to China's large geographical size, it is not always practical for Chinese tourists who want to visit several African countries to get a visa.
"Most embassies in African countries are in Beijing, but China is a big country and some Chinese do not have the opportunity to go to Beijing to apply for visas from countries like Zimbabwe, Zambia or Nigeria," he said.
Mr Gebremariam recalls that his company has the largest air network in China among other African airlines, currently serving five destinations, helping Chinese and foreigners living in various parts of the country to travel directly to Ethiopia and elsewhere. in Africa without having to go through Beijing.
Ethiopian now operates daily flights from Addis Ababa to Guangzhou and Beijing and three times a week to Chengdu. Ethiopian Airlines also operates daily passenger and cargo flights to Hong Kong and Shanghai. Shenzhen and Zhengzhou must follow soon.
He intends to create a platform for visas in Addis Ababa. Of the five Chinese destinations in Addis Ababa, Chinese and foreign visitors "will be able to apply for visas in 35 African countries through their embassies in Ethiopia," Gebremariam said.
Thirty-five African countries have signed agreements with the Ethiopian government for visa projects aimed at increasing China's investment prospects in Africa.
