The teaser, who anticipates the premiere of the new urban Kia Soul crossover at the Los Angeles Auto Show, is not fooled: the car, which is built on the new K2 modular platform, has really grown in size! The wheelbase has grown by 30 mm: it is now the same 2600 mm as that of the Hyundai Kona crossover or much better than the current generation of Russian Kia Rio. And in length, the new Soul grew by 55 mm, to 4195 mm.
The width (1800 mm) and height (1600 mm) remain the same, and luggage capacity increases slightly – from 354 to 364 liters. But the fifth door increases in length and width. At the same time, landing in the front seat was more comfortable: the doors had been widened. The structure of the body becomes stronger because of the increasing proportion of high-strength steel: Kia relies on the highest score on the results of independent collision tests.
And, of course, the new Kia Soul outwardly cannot be equated with the old, regardless of the carefully preserved form factor. The headlights are "narrowed", transparent bridges appear between them, and the grille becomes bigger and gets a chrome edge. On the rear pillar of the roof, black inserts with a model logo appear, and the shape of their painted parts, in Korean opinion, resembles the tip of an aircraft wing. Finally, the taillights take the form of a boomerang and a three-dimensional "fill".
In the new generation, Soul has significantly expanded various style shows. Among them are now the GT-Line, X-Line and Designer Collection versions. Each – with its own nuances: for example, GT-Line (red car in the photo) is different in other bumpers, door frames, black mirrors, and red inserts in the interior. X-Line has an exterior body kit made of unpainted plastic, while the "designer" version promises two-tone body colors, black-spoke wheels and genuine fog lights.

The interior of Soule was long reminded except for the typical contours of the front panel. But in detail it has changed, and the center console is now turning towards the driver. In the rich trim level there is a 10.25-inch split-display media system, an 8-inch projection screen, and a 640W Harman Kardon audio system with 10 speakers. On the inner surface of the "three-dimensional" door coating, and the color of the cabin's backlight can still be synchronized with music.
The new traditional Soul engine is inherited from the second generation car. For the United States, the two-liter main engine from the Nu family (152 hp, 179 Nm) will be paired with six-speed "mechanics", but instead of the traditional "automaton," variables are now offered, such as the Kia Forte sedan. There is also a turbo tube 1.6 (204 hp, 265 Nm) with one "robot" seven steps. All-wheel drive isn't there.
Kia Soul EV electricity is also provided, but information about it is still incomplete. The new electric motor produces 204 hp and 395 Nm instead of 110 hp and 285 Nm from the previous model. A battery with a capacity of 30 kWh has given way to a new 64 kWh battery: the company promised to report the mileage once.
North America will be the first international market for new Souls: sales will begin there in the first half of 2019. After sales will begin in Europe, here Soul will remain only in the form of electric cars: there will be no gasoline and diesel versions in the World Long. Kia's office in Moscow promises that we will definitely appear in 2019. True, the exact date is unknown, but we would suggest that the car will come to Russian dealers only in the fall.
