Over the past week, the incidence of measles has increased 35% compared to the previous week. This November 13 was reporteda press service from the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
It should be noted that in the last week 1682 people became measles – 506 adults and 1176 children.
Since early 2018, 38,108 people have become measles (14,609 adults and 23,499 children; 15 people have died from complications (four adults and 11 children).
The Ministry of Health emphasizes that measles is most affected in areas where vaccination is at its lowest. In particular, in Lviv (7,845 people), Ivano-Frankivsk (3,816 people), Transcarpathian (3,582 people) and Odessa (2,567) regions. And also in the city of Kiev – 2,445 people.
The Ministry of Health warns that there is no cure for measles, and the only way to protect against this disease is vaccination.
Measles is an acute infectious viral disease that can be fatal. The main symptoms of this disease are fever, inflammation of the mucous membranes of the oral cavity and upper respiratory tract, conjunctivitis, maculopapular rash on the skin and general poisoning.
The measles virus is very contagious, quickly transmitted through air droplets. This virus can live in the air and on the surface for up to two hours after the sick person leaves the place. Nine out of 10 unimmunized people who come into contact with patients become infected.
On September 13, 2018, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine banned unvaccinated children from entering educational institutions.
