hjuO Communications Security Office The New Zealand Government has banned telecommunications companies Spark from using Huawei's equipment in developing the 5G network, justifying the decision by "significant security risks."

The decision came after a similar ban occurred in Australia, where the Chinese telecommunications giant was prevented in August from launching a 5G network also due to security issues.

The company, Spark, said it was disappointed with the decision, but the company underlined in a statement today that it remains confident that it can still launch the 5G network in July 2020.

Huawei suffered a setback in the US market in 2012 when a congressional report warned telecommunications companies not to buy their equipment, accusing security risks.

China is New Zealand's biggest trading partner.
