About 750,000 young girls have been vaccinated against the HPV virus in Portugal in the past 10 years, which corresponds to 86% of the population that qualifies for the vaccine, making the country an "international example."

The data was released by the Directorate General of Health at the 10th anniversary ceremony of vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV), which can cause cervical cancer.

The HPV vaccine, with vaccines included in the National Vaccination Program, began in October 2008.
