CAMP S.K. PENDATUN, Maguindanao – Police hunt down armed group members who attacked and killed a high-ranking official from the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) and his aide and injured his wife in Guindulungan, Maguindanao Tuesday afternoon.
Chief Supt. Graciano Mijares, police director for the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), identified those killed as Omar Bandali, 57, aka "MNLF Commander Barracuda," and his aide, Bogel Sabandal, 33. Bandali's wife, Saniya, 43, suffered injuries – wounds in the body.
Both Bandali and Sabandal died at the scene of several gunshot wounds during 1:30 a.m. ambushed at Barangay Kalumamis, Guindulungan, Maguindanao.
"Responding to residents and village officials rushed their wives to hospitals in Maguindanao and finally in Cotabato City," Mijares said.
Citing police reports from Guindulungan city police, Mijares said the victims were on top of an Isuzu pick-up car (LCJ-474) heading home when gunmen on both sides of the street opened fire on them.
Lookout police are seeking personal revenge as the motive behind the attack.
In a statement, the MNLF, a rebel movement that formed a peace treaty with the government in 1996, has pledged to help authorities resolve multiple murders. (PNA)
