ADHD diagnosis is not well documented

This was found in the white paper "Diagnosis of Hyperkinetic Disorders in Children in Norway", published in the Journal of the Norwegian Medical Association. This article is about using the diagnosis of ADHD in specialist medical tests, and the correlation that he has varies between regions.

Researchers have read medical journals and mapped court issues, and correlation diagnoses have been documented. Journal reviews including children from all over the country

– We found that about half of the ADHD diagnoses were well documented. Many expulsions were not carried out in accordance with recommendations in the national guidelines, the victory of Pål Surén, researcher at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health.

That's for many diagnoses the judge lacked called differential diagnostic assessment, it will see an assessment of alternative explanations of symptoms. Some children are told about learning difficulties and predict development without ability or development tests, or without the need for attention in the assessment of diagnosis.

In other cases, journalistic information contained in the child's life contains symptoms that can contribute to symptoms. It could be cohabitation between parents, serious parental illness, neglect, abuse or oppression.

– Such conditions do not mean that the child may experience ADHD, but must always be discussed with relationships that show symptoms and function of the child, Suren said.

He stated that they also read journals where describing children did not fit the diagnostic criteria for ADHD, and where it looked as if the child had been diagnosed without actually having the condition.

Difficulty in diagnosing ADHD

ADHD diagnostics are demanding because they do not make a difference between diagnosis and normal function. High levels of activity, impulsivity and inadequate concentration are common in young children, but they are usually sleepy when children grow naturally. It may be difficult to complete the threshold for diagnosis and leave one to draw a border with what is normal for a child who is hanging out in the ripening process.

Such challenges are not unique to ADHD. Many psychiatric and medical diagnoses are based on symptom criteria and do not have a clear threshold value for diagnosis. Diagnostics must then be adjusted based on total judgment and wisdom.

"A common objection to the diagnosis of ADHD is that it does not represent developmental deviations, but is a label on children in the suburbs of the normal area, Fortel Surén.

However, researchers show that the study of children with ADHD has shown that they are the most obvious and that they decide on the normal development of the child. Hyperactivity and concentration failure often cause large amounts of water on the shoulder and elles. Many begin to develop language, eliminate motorbikes and the habit of regulating their own behavior.

I didn't investigate it well enough

"Some children get a diagnosis of ADHD that they should not have. That does not mean that healthy children get a diagnosis, but to convince children with disabilities to be adequately examined, the researchers said.

Suré Meiner, there is a need to improve the diagnosis of ADHD in a Norwegian specialist medical test. National guidelines must be revised so that they set explicit requirements for what will be included in payments. Diagnosis criteria must be used actively, so that a diagnosis is provided for children who meet their criteria. Researchers also think that developing methods to observe children in shelters and kindergartens must be developed, because these observations are an important part of the basis of the diagnosis.

"Although some ADHD host diagnoses are too thin, there is no basis to see that ADHD is generally overdiagnosed in Norway. It is also conceivable that children with ADHD should not be cared for by health services, especially in areas that have a share of children with this diagnosis, said Suren.

"Therefore it is not enough to reduce the proportion of children with a diagnosis. The aim must also be that the diagnosis must be applied to the right children and to build up on overall melting, he concluded.
