Tom Waterhouse tipped behind the big strides at Goldsborough on Saturday on the Sunshine Coast.

How much influence do tipping services have on the betting market?

Goldsborough’s fluctuations on Saturdays are incredible.

He traded as second favorite for most of the week behind Bleu Zebra, but his stunning turnaround after 9 a.m. on Saturday morning up to the jump saw him start $ 1.60 odds, as Bleu Zebra eased to $ 6.50.

Tom Waterhouse has garnered a significant following since he switched from betting to tipping a few years ago and Goldsborough was awarded the best for Saturday mornings.

While Waterhouse cannot be held solely responsible for the decline, there is little doubt that its large following made an impact.

He’s earning $ 2.10 late in the morning and then maybe someone else is just following the money trail.

Surely few could expect him to start at $ 1.60 when $ 3 + was traded 72 hours earlier.

On Melbourne Cup Day, the best Waterhouse was the Purple Sector, which also slashed quite a bit from its starting price, finally starting at $ 2.20.

Furphy Plate

The Purple Sector was a huge hit at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day after being spiked by Tom Waterhouse.

We see prominent public tipper like Dean Lester from Melbourne having regular market effect, especially when he chooses one with longer odds.

BetSmart service changed its model a few years ago, far from being a single race tip, because always the selection was too short.

Decades ago, Malcolm Johnston’s popular service also made a similar impact for a while.

It’s definitely made for interesting viewing… and for that matter, bookmakers get a lot of it (see Ladbrokes Report).

SUNSHINE ON THE RISE

The Sunshine Coast Turf Club has plans to expand its training base from currently 420 to 550 people.

SCTC Chief Executive John Miller said a number of trainers had expressed interest in attending the training at the venue.

He said the club was considering the cost versus return of the feasibility of building more stables, with the potential of building a type similar to what is already on its path, on an adjacent plot of land.

The club’s next project is to upgrade the Synthetic track and tenders are under review for it.

MONDAY LETTER

LADBROKES WEEKEND REPORT

Best result: Fleet Dove, Race 6: We just want Goldsborough to be defeated and Fleet Dove is proving a very positive result.

Worst result: Ballistic Boy, Race 8: Well supported all week and he delivered… barely. The Sugar Boom became a very popular multi Ballistic Boy.

Best support: Goldsborough, Race 6: It was a serious ride and he accounted for over 80 percent of Ladbrokes surviving the race.

Trekking is a short favorite to take the Winterbottom Stake.

QUOTE

“Brilliant. I can’t ask for more.”

– Steph Thornton is excited about the upcoming summer for Gotta Kiss, who will meet all Saturday’s rivals even better from now on.

TALKING POINT

Queensland equestrian ranking. Baylee Nothdurft and Ryan Maloney left a big hole in their absence on Saturday, so it’s nice to hear some reinforcements are on their way. Glen Boss will be welcome for six weeks here, while Michael Rodd won’t take long to make a splash with news of his confirmed return.

RIDE

Jimmy Byrne got a little more than he expected when they reached the final line on the Coast. Tokoriki Lad took a sharp turn right at the line and almost sent the race away. This image taken by Vanessa Johnston of Trackside Photography captures the moment.

THREE FOR BACK

Gee Tee Tee, Racing 5: Almost overcomes the difference in weight

Zebra Blue, Race 6: I’m completely sorry.

Peppi La Few, Racing 9: It will be even fitter for that.

RISK

Niccanova is the stronger player in the Mooloolaba Cup stakes and puts up a bit of hitting, but is still under her best.

FLOP

Every favorite in Ballarat. Nobody managed to salute in 10 races in bloodshed for passengers.

SHARP SHOOTER

Swiss Ace and Mooloolaba Cup seemed to have a bit of depth to them, but punters didn’t have it all, opting for Sugar Boom and Ballistic Boy and backing them up being very slim odds.
