KUALA LUMPUR: The Public Account Committee (PAC) unanimously agreed to compile a report on refunds for taxes paid based on goods and services tax (GST) of RM19.4 billion tomorrow, one day earlier than scheduled.
Its chairman, Noraini Ahmad, said this was done to avoid further speculation about the report.
"After it was submitted to the People's Council, community members were able to obtain a report by downloading it from the parliamentary PAC website at www.parlimen.gov.my/pac the same day it was submitted," he said in a statement today.
On Wednesday, PAC said that the report would be submitted to the People's Council on Tuesday after the report was unanimously completed by 13 members at the PAC Report verification meeting.
The committee takes 11 months, starting from August 15, 2018, to complete the report after holding 10 meetings.
In August last year, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said that the government had previously failed to pay RM19.4 billion in GST returns after its application in April 2015, until May 31, 2018.
He claimed there were only RM1,490,000,000 left in the payment fund.
