- Amazon customers complained about package delays.
- Many delays may have been due to a tornado that ripped through the Amazon sorting center in Baltimore last week. The storm caused a 50-foot wall to collapse, killing two workers.
- The company has also clarified that a two-day delivery promise ensures that customers will get their package two days from the time it is delivered to the operator, not two days from the time of order.
Amazon faces a surge in customer complaints for delayed shipments.
"Why did @amazonprimenow suddenly take 10 days?" Michelle Hennessy tweeted on Friday. "I pay a subscription for a guarantee of 2 days. This sucks …"
Another person tweeted Friday: "Am I or @amazon Prime starting to slip in the guarantee of 2-day delivery?"
Amazon tweeted that delays could be attributed to bad weather that hit one of its sorting centers in Baltimore a week ago. A tornado in the area caused a 50-foot wall in the 4-year-old building to collapse, killing two workers.
"Bad weather caused damage to the sorting center on Friday night," the company tweeted in response to several customer complaints. "Shipments related to this facility have been delayed. We apologize for the inconvenience and try to immediately resolve this issue!"
Thank you for clarifying. Bad weather caused damage to the sorting center last Friday. Shipments related to this facility have been delayed. We apologize for the inconvenience and try to resolve this problem quickly. ^ KH
The company has also clarified the promise of two-day delivery in response to dissatisfied customers.
Many customers believe the two-day delivery promise means they will get delivery within two days of the order.
But the two-day window does not start until the package is delivered to the shipping company, Amazon said.
This is a principle that is often misunderstood by Amazon Prime's two-day shipping offer.
"Prime Two Day shipments refer to the transit time, within the working day, after the item is shipped, "the company tweeted Friday to several customers.
