Riga, December 6, LETA. Of the 526 cases of Covid-19 infection detected the past day, more than half were registered in Riga and Daugavpils, according to data compiled by the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC).
216 new infections were registered in Riga last day, and the total number of diseases in the capital for 14 days is currently 3253 people. In turn, 99 new cases have been registered in Daugavpils, and the total number of cases in 14 days has reached 989 city residents.
A significant increase was also seen in the municipality of Ozolnieki, where 41 new infections were registered, bringing the cumulative number of 14-day cases in the municipality to 71. There were 28 new cases recorded in Tukums, with the cumulative number of cases in 14 days in the city reaching 46. In Jēkabpils there were 20 new cases, reaching 140 people in the last two weeks.
In the Jelgava and Jelgava regions, 12 new cases were registered respectively, the cumulative number of cases 14 days in the city and region reached 362 and 71. In Ventspils and Jūrmala, 14 new cases were registered, and a total of 14 days the cumulative number of cases is currently 89 and 209.
11 new cases were registered in Mārupe, 10 in Iecava, nine new cases in Daugavpils and Balvi districts, and eight new cases in Salaspils and Rēzekne districts.
The largest number of cases in the last two weeks was in Riga – 3253, Daugavpils – 989, Jelgava – 362, Jurmala – 209, Krustpils region – 194, Ķekava region – 176, Mārupe region – 155, Rēzekne – 150, Jēkabpils – 141, Salaspils region – 126, in the Daugavpils region – 109.
The Badan LETA calculations, which are based on Central Bureau of Statistics data on the number of residents in districts according to actual residence in 2019 and SPKC data on the last 14 days of illness in Latvian cities, show that the cumulative morbidity is 14 days per 100,000 population.
In 23 municipalities this indicator was higher, including in eight cities it was exceeded by 50%.
Counting the number of cases per 100,000 population in the last 14 days after the change that occurred on the last day, highest in Krustpils, the municipality of Aknīste, Daugavpils, Salacgrīva, Mārupe, Ķekava and Ozolnieki, as well as in the Jelgava district.
The morbidity rate of 14 days per 100,000 population is a theoretical indicator that allows comparison of the morbidity rate in areas with different populations and does not indicate a specific number of cases.
It has been reported that a total of 526 Covid-19 cases were detected in Latvia last day, while nine cases have died, according to data compiled by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC).
The three people who died were between 65 and 75 years old, five people aged 75 and 85 years, and one person aged between 90 and 95 years. A total of 262 people infected with the new coronavirus have died in Latvia so far.
Over the past day, 5,822 Covid-19 tests were conducted in Latvia, of which 9% were positive. The SPCC has previously explained that this figure is considered important in the European Union, because above 4%, the spread of disease is considered rapid and uncontrolled.
In Latvia, a total of 21,313 people have contracted Covid-19, but 1,866 have recovered.
Data from the National Health Service shows that 69 Covid-19 patients were hospitalized on the last day, including the two who were transferred.
A total of 604 patients are currently being treated in the inpatient setting, of whom 562 have moderate disease and 42 of them are severe.
On the last day, 13 patients were discharged from the hospital, including two patients who were transferred. To date, a total of 1,637 people have been diagnosed with Covid-19.
