Every second adult patient did not know that he had diabetes, said the head of the Latvian Diabetes Federation (LDF), Endocrinologist Indra Štelmane.

According to Schlemm, for this reason, the topic of this year's World Diabetes Day is "Diabetes and Family". President LDF said that this year the federation wanted to highlight the vital role of the family in the care, care and prevention of diabetes.
"We encourage everyone to regularly check their health and determine their diabetes risk, and encourage family members to be tested," Stelmane said.
Celebrating World Diabetes Day, LDF will invite people for an informative event in Riga Central Market Root Pavilion on 3rd, 3rd, 3rd k-3 Centrāltirgus Street, from 14:00 to November 17 next week.
During the event, it will be possible to consult with experts, to determine your cholesterol for free and receive vouchers for free sugar checks.
The event will also include endocrinological counseling and nutritionists on the prevention and treatment of diabetes, healthy eating and physical activity.
In turn, the Latvian Children and Young People Diabetes Association will hold "Diabetes That Can Be Found – Save Life!", Which will take place on November 17 at the Kalnciems quarter market, Kalnciema iela 35, Riga, from 10:00 to 16: 00. During that time, consulting specialist nutrition, natural sweeteners and creative retro-reflective workshops.
As a representative of the Latvian Marta Lagzdiņa Diabetes Center informed, to attract more public attention to the spread of diabetes in Latvia and to raise awareness among people, the public will launch a social campaign "Stronger for diabetes" on November 14.
It was designed as a social experiment in which three personally known individuals – Kristīne Garklava, Magnuss Eriņš and Edgars Bāliņš – will try "live and match strength" with diabetes in their roles as musicians, improvised theater actors Nauris Brikmanis.
According to Lagzndin, the experimental participants will be able to survive and, through various assignments and tests, "enjoy their skin" the daily lives of diabetic patients, including situations where diabetes is close to one another, making a person step by step, impressive at times when expected at least, it significantly inhibits human activity and behavior, and sometimes even creates inaccuracies, but also health and life-threatening moments.
The campaign launch will take place on November 14 at 11.00 in the Deep White office of the Communication Management Agency. The event will present statistics on the prevalence of diabetes in Latvia and provide practical advice for diabetics and colleagues, as well as experience experiences of diabetic patients and describe social trials.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2001, 29,492 people suffered from diabetes in Latvia, while in 2017 it was diagnosed with 91,571 people.
