Jakarta, Gatra.com – If the trial at the Surabaya Commercial Court (PN) accepts the peace proposal submitted by the creditor on 14/11, the situation will be a historic day for the red plate pioneer airline PT Merpati Nusantara Airlines.
Previously, at the session on Wednesday last week (7/11) the panel of judges postponed the reading of the verdict results because the proposal and the voting peace of creditors and debtors must be studied first.
In the previous voting, the majority of creditors approved the peace and hoped that Merpati would be able to operate again to restore its financial health.
The creditors believe Merpati can fly again because there are investors, namely PT Intra Asia Corpora who are ready to disburse Rp6.4 trillion in phases for capital to operate again.
According to President Director of Merpati Capt. Asep Ekanugraha is the capital of Merpati's capital to rise again.
"The way is with the new fleet (aircraft fleet), potential routes, and credible human resources, Merpati will be able to fulfill its debt obligations, '' he told Gatra.com.
As known ]in completing the Postponement of Debt Payment Obligations (PKPU) through peace voting, 81 out of 85 concurrent creditors stated that they agreed and 4 did not agree. While from separatist creditors, only 1 did not agree with the peace proposal, namely the Ministry of Finance.
The principle of business continuity has been championed by management by trying to find investors as a manifestation of the seriousness of Merpati to rise again.
Therefore, Asep is optimistic and hopes that Merpati will still have the opportunity to run a new business plan and business model.
If it turns out Merpati is declared bankrupt then there will be no opportunity and certainty whether Merpati's debt to creditors will be paid.
But if the judge's decision still provides an opportunity for peace, then the Merpati business plan will be carried out.
President Director of Merpati Asep Ekanugraha said management had plans and business models to debate Merpati again.
The process of restructuring and revitalizing the company has actually begun since Merpati stopped operating on February 1, 2014. "The move is to save Merpati from continuing to bleed financially," said Asep.
As long as Merpati does not fly, the next restructuring process is to release and generate existing business units, namely Merpati Training Center and Merpati Maintenance Center in 2016.
The restructuring continued with layoff of around 1,441 employees in 2017.
‘’ Currently both the training center and maintenance center can stay alive. While reluctantly there was a layoff process which was finally accepted by all employees. They realize that Merpati's position is in trouble, 'said Asep.
If Wednesday (11/14) homologation takes place and the judge's decision accepts it, then Merpati is ready with his business plan.
"The first Merpati reborn flight will be conducted in Biak, West Papua, the eastern region which is one of Merpati's main bases, '' said Asep.
Current conditions, according to Asep, should be a momentum for Merpati to rise.
He mentioned a number of potentials that became a great opportunity for Merpati to rise from its 'suspended animation'.
First, the majority of creditors want the Pigeon to fly back. Secondly, there are already investors who will disburse funds amounting to IDR 6.4 trillion as Merpati capital to air and exist in the aviation business.
The third potential, according to Asep, is the still open niche market in the country with the increasing number of new airports and the extension of existing airports. In addition to welcoming tourists and millennials who like traveling, the government opens 10 new tourist destinations as "new Bali".
The ten priority destinations that are priority are Lake Toba (North Sumatra), Belitung (Babel), Tanjung Lesung (Banten), Thousand Islands (DKI Jakarta), Borobudur Temple (Central Java), Mount Bromo (East Java), Mandalika Lombok (NTB), Komodo Island (NTT), Wakatobi National Park (Southeast Sulawesi), and Morotai (North Maluku).
Meanwhile for fleet or aircraft fleet, Merpati will not operate an output aircraft Boeing and Airbus, but sophisticated aircraft made in Russia. "But it was not the one who had an accident at Mount Salak, Bogor," said Asep, when asked.
In accordance with the business plan created, according to Asep, Merpati will not be involved in the low cost carrier (LCC) airline segment.
Then, in addition to working on flights in eastern Indonesia, Merpati also intends to fly for routes in all regions of Indonesia.
"It is even possible to explore potential foreign routes," he said.
At present, according to Asep, is a momentum for the aviation world in Indonesia to create balance and make improvements.
The return of Merpati is an opportunity for a healthier new balance to emerge in the aviation business in the country.
The community will also have many airline options to fly to a number of regions.
‘Saya I have heard that there are many parties from communities in eastern Indonesia who want and support Merpati to fly again, '' said Asep.
As for the aspect of the company, Asep revealed, if investors do not want excessive intervention, such as entering and asking for a position in the management structure.
"Investors want that the funds that have been planted can be used as well as possible, so that the company can gradually be healthy, reap profits, and settle its debt obligations," said Asep.
As for the Government, Asep assessed, if the Merpati operates again it will have a positive effect. From business activities, it will provide additional tax revenue to the state.
In addition to increasing tax revenues, Merpati's activities will turn the economic wheel in the aviation business, which will certainly absorb a lot of labor.
"Moreover, there are many pilots who are unemployed flight school graduates," he concluded.
