Tesla boss Elon Musk has expressed interest in working with Daimler on the planned electricity version of a small truck Sprinter. "It might be interesting to work with Daimler / Mercedes on E-Sprinter", tweeted Musk. "This is a great van, we will investigate."
He answered questions from Twitter users for electric-powered shipping vans. In February, Mercedes-Benz launched the latest series of Sprinter series. For next year, e-version is promised.
Tesla did not reply to requests for musk tweets. Daimler declined to comment on whether the group was open to working with Tesla. A spokesman said only, there are those who are happy about Musk's interest in Sprinter.
Daimler responded flatly on Twitter, but continued to bow his head: "Thank you for the flowers! And yes, that's a great car …", he said there.
Daimler's CEO Dieter Zetsche has recently ruled out collaboration with pioneering US electric cars. Polish daily Rzeczpospolita told Zetsche at the end of October that he had never regretted selling Tesla shares four years ago. But that does not exclude cooperation in the future.
Daimler sold 4% of its shares in Tesla in 2014 for $ 780 million. Financial participation is no longer needed to continue cooperation with Tesla, the group has justified the move. The Stuttgart wants to compete with their first Tesla all-electric SUV, which dominates the market in the luxury segment.
