Ethiopian police found 200 mass graves – KBC

Police in Ethiopia say they have found a mass grave with 200 bodies near the border between the Somali and Oromia regions of the country.

Hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced over the past year due to violence there.

Local media reported that the tomb was discovered during an investigation into alleged atrocities committed by former Somali regional president of Somalia.

Abdi Mohammad was awaiting trial on charges he triggered ethnic clashes.

The well-known regional security force known as police Liyu was accused of murder in the area between the Somali and Oromia regions and reported directly to the regional president.

Police tried to identify 200 bodies found.

Mohammed was forced to resign in August and was arrested a few weeks later after the violence took place in the regional capital, Jijiga.

He was alleged to have overseen widespread rights violations including torture, rape and murder during the 13 years of his rule.

Last month, broadcasters linked to the state of Fana reported that he tried to escape from police custody by climbing through a window ahead of a court appearance.
