The End of Microsoft Windows Phone Is Here

Finally it's really here. At least for Windows Phone.

Microsoft has moved from a failed venture to the smartphone market for some time now. Recently, the company told users of the current Windows Phone model very clearly that they had to give up too.

"With the support of OS Windows 10 Mobile, we recommend that customers move to supported Android or iOS devices. "Microsoft's mission statement is to empower everyone and every organization on the planet to achieve more, forcing us to support our Mobile applications on these platforms and devices," read the Windows 10 Mobile support page. This page was first seen by the Thurrott technology news site.

Although this news did not come unexpectedly, it probably felt like a big loss for Microsoft, which had ambitiously dominated the smartphone market, because it told the remaining users to switch to Apple or Android.

Windows Mobile users have time before switching. The support page notes that support ends on June 11, 2019, and "security updates, non-security hotfixes, free help support options, or online technical content updates from Microsoft" will expire on December 10, 2019. While third parties can release their own updates , as happened with other dormant technologies, Microsoft moved.
