Steam blog posts aired today, detailing the 2018 comprehensive and best-selling game this year
Categories include titles that achieve certain goals such as:
- Top seller
- Best New Release
- Top Selling VR Title
- Graduates Top Early Access
- The Most Played Game
Valve does not release the exact revenue for each title, but places the game on a level based on their performance:
- Platinum: 1st – 12th Top Seller
- Gold: 13-24th Top Seller
- Perak: 25th-40th Top Seller
- Bronze: 41st-100th Top Seller
Interestingly, the number one game on the Top Seller list is Warframe, free games to play, with Dota 2 came second. According to the post, this list is a game that "generates the biggest income in 2018, which includes all types of Steam income; game sales, in-game transactions and DLC. The resulting list includes a mixture of free games and premium games. " This is good news for Digital Extremes, which has been working on Warframe since 2013. Other list highlights include Rocket league, Rainbow Six: Siege, Assys' Creed Odyssey, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance.
The Top New Releases list breaks down their titles into their release months and factors in the first week's earnings and overall profits for the entire year. There are many variations here, with April having only five titles while February has twenty-two titles. The entire list consists of 150 games.
The title of VR Top Sales is expected, with games like SUPERHOT VR, Fallout 4 VR, Skyrim VR, and Beat Saber make the top list. Some titles, like RAW DATA and Arizona Sunshine, has been at the top level for three years now.
Early Access Grads consist of popular games like uber Dead cells, Conan Exiles, Subnautica, and Rust. This category is for titles that have been accessed early for any period but entered the full version this year.
Finally, we have a Most Played list. These titles have at least more than 15,000 simultaneous players at one time this year, but be sure to exclude games that only have a jump in involvement due to prizes or events. Games that reach more than 100,000 players at the same time include Monster Hunter: World, Dota 2, Rainbow Six: Siege, Fortress Team 2, PUBG, and GTA V. What's very interesting is seeing a single player game at more than 50,000 levels. Titles such as Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, and FarCry 5 big press here.
