Ringing in the New Year in Toronto: What is open, what is closed, and what is active

The following is what happens in the city on New Year's Eve 2018 and what opens and closes on New Year's Day.

New Year's Eve Program:

New Year's Eve on Nathan Phillips Square

This free program takes place starting at 8pm. until midnight and featuring DJ skating parties, live music performances and fireworks.

ROM New Year's Eve Celebration

ROM will host special dinners and celebrations with dancing, live bands and toast in the middle of the night.

Las Vegastone New Year's Eve

The Gladstone Hotel hosts a Vegas-themed celebration to call on the New Year. The event starts at 9pm.

Open and close:

New Year's Eve:

  • LCBO closes at 6pm (or 8pm in certain locations)

  • Beer shop: The location closes at 6pm

  • TTC operates on Sunday schedules and passengers can board for free after 7pm. up to 7am on New Year's Day

  • GO Transit offers a free ride after 7pm. on New Year's Eve and the last train leaves Union Station at 3:23 a.m.

New Year's Day:

  • Open tourist attractions, including AGO, Casa Loma, CN Tower, ROM, Toronto Zoo

  • Some open malls include the Toronto CF Eaton Center, Square One, and CF Vaughan Mills

  • Most banks and wholesale stores close

  • Many restaurants open

  • GO Transit operates on a holiday schedule

  • TTC runs on a Sunday schedule
