An eight-year-old boy survived at the Edmonton hospital after a direct collision near Plamondon late Sunday that killed four people including his mother and two siblings.
Elisaveta Scherbakov, 34, and Alexander's two sons, 9, and Zenon, 4, were killed in an accident on Highway 858 at around 7 pm Sunday when the Edmonton family SUV collided with a truck, a family member living in Plamondon confirmed Wednesday.
The SUV traveled south on a highway five kilometers north of Plamondon – about 200 kilometers north of Edmonton – when the accident occurred in a truck to the north, RCMP said Monday.
A 23-year-old woman from Plamondon who was a passenger on the truck was also declared dead at the scene.
The GoFundMe page created by family members Vasily Chernishov – who identified himself as Elisaveta's brother – said father, Felip Scherbakov, 33, and middle son, Ioan, 8, were still in the hospital.
Ioan is in the intensive care unit and "struggles every hour for his life," Chernishov wrote.
"Ioan doesn't do things as well as yesterday. Still touching and going, hour after hour, "he said in an update late Tuesday.
Felip Scherbakov came out of coma and recovered from injury. The doctor told him about his family's condition after he woke up from a coma and he could visit Ioan, said the update.
Felip and Ioan were flown with STARS air ambulance to hospital after an accident along with a 21-year-old male driver from a truck from Edmonton and a 20-year-old passenger from Plamondon, all with life-threatening injuries.
Truck passengers have not been identified by the police.
Lac La Biche RCMP continues to investigate and believe that alcohol is involved.
Condolences have poured for the Scherbakov family on the GoFundMe page collecting more than $ 46,000 on Wednesday afternoon.
