Vancouver health authorities warn the public about a man they say falsely claiming to be a BC. doctor and ask prospective patients to go out for surgery.
Vancouver Coastal Health said Asten Nguyen Phong Nguyen – a.k.a. "Dr. Nguyen Nguyen" – advertises himself as a surgeon at Vancouver General Hospital and requests deposits for future operations.
"This person has no affiliation with VCH, he is not registered with the British Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, and he is not authorized to practice medicine in this province," Vancouver Coastal Health said in a statement.
This advises anyone who has paid a deposit to Nguyen to contact the College of Physicians and Surgeons of B.C. and the police.
Public question
VCH spokesman Tiffany Akins said the authorities issued the warning after several community members asked about Nguyen's beliefs.
"They wanted to confirm that a doctor was suspected of being affiliated with Vancouver Coastal Health when he stated on the RateMDs profile," Akins said. "It's very good that people call us to confirm."
Akins was not aware if Nguyen had a physical office in the Lower Mainland.
He said further investigations would be submitted to the campus.
CBC News has tried to contact Nguyen but has not received an immediate reply.
