Tesla sales in China have collapsed – Automotive News

In the past month, Tesla sold 70% fewer electric cars in China than in October 2017, the China Car Association said. The agency underlined that the collapse was due to the US-Podlabesky trade war.

All Tesla production for the Chinese market was imported from the US, and the 40 percent reciprocal tariff introduced by Beijing raised California's expensive electromobili costs. This happened against the background of unprecedented growth in green car sales in China since mid-year.

In an effort to convince investors last week, Ilon Musk announced that Tesla would cut the price of the Model S and Model X for the Chinese market to be "more affordable" and reduce hits. The company has bought land for its future factory in Shanghai – the first outside the US.
