Alexander Zverev won the ATP final after defeating world # 1 Novak Djokovic in an extraordinary match in London. The German showed a totally different face from his first match with Djokovic, showing a game that inspired and broke Serbian 6: 4, 6: 3 in one hour and 21 minutes.
Zvezd was the youngest champion in the tournament by Novak Djokovic in 2008. He took part only for the second time in the race for the best eight for this season, and a year ago he did not miss the group. He was the first German from Boris Becker in 1996, who held the title in the ATP final.
Germany stopped Djokovic on the way to the ATP sixth final, with Serbia going to equalize with Roger Federer. World No. 1 failed to repeat the achievement of current coach Zverev Ivan Lendel in 1986, who won the tournament without losing a set.
They met for the fourth time and Zverev won their second victory against World No. 1. He returned for two consecutive defeats from Djokovic in Shanghai more than a month ago and in the group stage in London. In the previous two matches, Zverev managed to win just eight matches, but this time he was at a very high level.
On the way to the biggest title of his career, Zverev managed to remove Federer and World No. 1. This is his fourth title in 2018 after they were in Munich, Madrid and Washington.
Djokovic also has four titles this year, they all won in the second round.
During the entire tournament, Djokovic was not shot once, but in the final match, Zverev won four submissions to the 14th Grand Slam title. Germany finished the match with an impressive 10th.
World No. 1 ended the year with 53 wins and 12 losses, and Zverev was young with 58 wins and 19 defeats.
