On social networks, the NGO Rio da Paz talking about the violence in the city and the deaths of the girls at the Baixada Fluminense.
“Every time this death occurs, we think everything will change, because the face of the most terrible crime in Rio is the death by stray bullets from these boys and girls. However, nothing has changed. The family remains defenseless, the author of the murders is not explained, the killers are not convicted and no transformation has taken place in public security policy. It is worth remembering that those who died were poor children. Therein lies the reason for indifference on the part of public authorities, ”said NGO president Antonio Carlos Costa.
Rio de Paz has been following cases of children killed by firearms since 2007. Sad statistics, according to the NGO, have recorded 79 children who were victims of violence in Rio, most of them with stray bullets. With these cases, this year alone (2020), the number of children killed by firearms in the state of Rio de Janeiro has risen to 12 this Saturday (5), that is, one per month, according to statistics from the NGO Rio Peace. In 2019, seven children were killed. Between January 2019 (the start of Wilson Witzel’s administration) and this Saturday (5/12) 19 children died.
