Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukder said that people's representatives who won elections through illegal means or asylum seekers did not have validity.
He also said that the country's election process was not free of corruption.
Mahbub Talukder made a statement at a workshop about updating voter lists at the Election Training Institute in Agargaon on Sunday.
He said that illegal public representatives did not have responsibility and accountability to the public. In this case, democracy cannot be properly consolidated and preserved. The goal of all countries is to build democracy through free and fair elections. Because a country that is not democratic has no self-respect.
He said that the alleged corruption of the General Election Commission, the Secretariat Commission and his field officials was pathetic. He said the country expected a commission that was free of corruption and transparent at all times.
Mahbub Talukder said the highest precautions must be taken to ensure that the Rohingya do not become voters. If election officials are found to be involved in voting for Rohingya, strict action must be taken against him.
He added that there were some inconsistencies in the voter list laws and regulations. That requires correction. The form needs to be simplified so that the voter list is updated.
