For World AIDS Day on December 1, the Red Ribbon flag was once again installed in the façade of Vienna City Hall.

The red ribbon is intended to express solidarity with all those affected by HIV and AIDS, emphasizing city council members Jürgen Czernohorszky and Peter Hacker (SPÖ), who carried out a joint campaign with Vienna's Anti-Discrimination Agency. "AIDS opponents, not AIDS sufferers," there is a flag to read.

510 new HIV diagnoses 2017

"It is our concern to work against discrimination against people living with HIV / AIDS," Czernohorszky said in a press release. According to Health Councilor Hacker, there were 510 new diagnoses of HIV in Austria last year: "This number shows that the fight against this disease is still current."
