It recommends manually switching to Wet Mode, which can be done either through the buttons on the center console – significantly redesigned for this eight-generation car, making it less control-heavy – or using the mode switch on the steering wheel at 911 with the Chrono Sport Package option .

Wet mode makes more fundamental changes to the handling of the 911. Aside from adjusting the PSM and PTM settings, active aerodynamics, the optional Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) Plus, and general responsiveness of the car are all adjusted.

From around 56 mph, for example, the variable rear spoiler shifts to an expanded "performance" position, while the cooling air opens and the character of the accelerator pedal becomes more flat. PSM Off and Sport modes are locked, while engine torque is remapped to make it smoother. Similar changes were made to how the new eight-speed PDK transmission changed.

Although you might think this is especially useful for the 2020 911 rear wheel drive, Wet Mode also made changes to the 911 Carrera 4S. This pushes more power to the front axle than usual, helping stabilization. The electronically controlled rear differential lock also reduces the locking ratio.

These small changes coincided with a real change in how 911 felt driving in the wet, Porsche said. More confident handling, a better ability to adapt to sudden changes in road surface – with different coefficient of friction – and more definite application of power. Indeed, the automaker also recommends it be activated manually when the driver faces snow, because the benefits are as valuable there.

Overall, as a standard technology, Wet Mode will likely add to the reputation of 911 as a sports car that you can use comfortably every day.
