The tragedy of Yazmín Marzo, a boxer who dreams of becoming a world champion but dies of an overdose at the age of 23-12-30/2018

It was early morning when Claudia, her mother, heard strange noises. He approached the bed and found that it was Yazmin, his daughter, who was almost 23 years old I have a seizure. He was desperate, he did not know what to do, but he knew for certain: he had to act quickly. After lifting him, he took him to the car to take him to Pasteur Regional Hospital. I prayed I asked God to help him. But, halfway through, the girl's heart couldn't stand it anymore. Thus, suddenly, the life of Yazmín Marzo, provincial and national amateur champion and one of the great promises of Argentine boxing, ended.

He was born on April 23, 1995 and is the third of five children: Milena, Oreste, Antonella, and Tomás, who live with him at the house of Villa María, Córdoba, where he is in the world. Meanwhile it never gets into trouble, when a girl approaches a fight. First with martial arts: He started practicing kung fu and then kicked fists, to reach Dan first and become an instructor.

Yazmin Marzo is one of Argentina's big boxing promises.

Yazmin Marzo is one of Argentina's big boxing promises.

It was the days when he got used to traveling 150 kilometers separating his city from the capital city of Cordoba, where he began to make a name for himself. Oh, and also nickname that will accompany him forever: Storm. "I wear it because it's strong and I'm always going forward, never satisfied and going for more, very temperamental and demanding of himself, a complete athlete." I remember one day, looking for a nickname, I said: like & # 39; El Huracan & # 39 ;? "He answered yes, and it turned out", said Hugo Vilches, his first coach.

But the storm is always he fought from behind against drugs, addiction to those who are always harmed. And that's why in mid-2016, after several years of training and time between Córdoba and Buenos Aires, he decided to return to Villa María, to be close to his family, friends, to recover. And that's not just a way to say: assuming you have a problem, you seek therapeutic help.

While following the doctor's advice, he was tempted by the idea of wearing gloves and getting into the ring. Suddenly, without thinking about it before, boxing became part of his life. Very important part. In April this year, in fact, he participated in the National Women's Championship, at Alta Gracia, where he won in the category of up to 69 kilograms. And on August 17, was crowned provincial champion (empty belt), at the Club Union, after defeating in a unanimous decision for Cordovan Alexia Gigena.

Everything seems to improve in his life. I am pleased. And, from yapa, he received a call to integrate Las Toritas, the Argentine women's boxing team. The illusion of traveling to Venezuela, where Continental will take place, however, does not last long. But even though it was outside, it did not go down. On the contrary: he continues training without rest. And in October he received his award: he was quoted again and confirmed for the team participating in the World Cup in New Delhi, India, last November.

Tirelessly, he alternated between the gymnasium and gloves with the study room: he attended the Physical Education Teaching Staff at La Santísima Trinidad Institute. In addition, he has the coordination of a gymnasium from a famous hotel located on the outskirts of the city and shares work in workshops relating to prevention and inclusion in sports for athletes who want to escape from different addictions. And besides, he began to enjoy the confession of his neighbors on the road.

"People say I make history. It has never been this that amateur Villamariense boxers go to the World Cup. And especially a woman, "he said, with a big smile, Villa María newspaper.

He dreamed of winning the Gold Medal at the World Cup, but had to represent the country in a category higher than natural weight and eventually fight up to 75 kilograms and not 69, where he performed better. On November 17, he made his international debut against Myagmarjargal Munkhbat of Mongolia in his only fight at the AIBA 2018 Women's World Championship, which took place at KD Jadhav Indoor IG Hall Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. He was defeated by points, although at that time, no one doubted that his future was very big.

And he is very enthusiastic about what he can achieve. "It's beautiful, I'm very good, I'm calm, I feel strong, confident and with all the tools to achieve new goals," he said. And like that. It must be like that.

However, their real struggles continue far from interviews, flashes, confessions. He suffered a recurrence, the days when his guard went down. "We received Yazmin after his request for help and he made extraordinary changes, started boxing, teaching and learning, we are happy with what he lives in. But there are people who seem to be cured and never definitively, said Dr. Julio Tabárez, head the workshop that Yaz attended, when news of his death was recently discovered. He added: "Before every relapse we have to start over again, we know it's like that, it doesn't cure with antibiotics like pneumonia."

Prosecutor Juliana Companys caratuló was the cause of Yazmin as "dubious etiological death." In addition, he ordered a body autopsy in March. At Villa Maria, everyone is sick. They knew it was an overdose. And it Yazmin's life finished faster than he should.
