WASHINGTON, November 28, 2018 / PRNewswire / – From NASA, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, the Security-Regolith Explorer spacecraft (OSIRIS-REx) is scheduled to meet the target of an asteroid, Bennu, in Monday, December 3 around midday EST.
NASA will broadcast live from 11:45 to 12:15 a.m. Est to highlight the arrival of the body's first asteroid sample return mission. This program will come from the OSIRIS-REx mission control at the Lockheed Martin Space facility at Littleton, Colorado, and will be broadcast on NASA, Facebook Live, Ustream, YouTube and the agency's website. NASA TV will also show the arrival preview program starting at 11:15 AM EST.
OSIRIS-REx is launched on September 2016 and slowly approached Bennu. Spacecraft will spend almost a year on asteroid surveys with five scientific instruments with the aim of choosing a safe and scientifically attractive location to collect samples. OSIRIS-REx will return samples to Earth at September 2023.
