Posadas, Misiones | NEA RURAL | Organized by the National Yerba Mate Institute (INYM), health professionals present (on November 22, 2018) Jornada Scientific Outreach Yerba Mate and Health held in Vinolia-a room specifically designed for events about food at Vitacura, in the city of Santiago de Chile, and where they study in detail scientific studies that state the functional properties and protective effects of infusion on metabolic diseases such as diabetes, cholesterol and weight loss, with exhibitions given by biochemist Rafael Pérez Elizalde and Dr. Elio Soria.
The event brought together dozens of doctors from private clinics in Santiago, such as Clínica Alemana and Clínica Las Condes, as well as nutritionists from other institutions, so they would know firsthand the benefits of this yerba millenary consumption, answer questions with their scientific colleagues and know how show their patients consumption of this herb as a coadjuvant in the treatment of metabolic diseases and control of overweight.
Speakers discussed the positive effects of yerba on cardiometabolic risk, risk of diabetes and fighting excess weight. Along with this, they have destroyed the myth about the risk of consuming a partner in breastfeeding and its effect on blood pressure and gastric mucosa.
"We have conducted an investigation in Mendoza where we made a food plan, accompanied by two liters of couples, replaced two liters of water, and collaborated a lot on weight reduction. For two or three real scientific reasons. One of them is that it works on the nervous system. center and reduce sensation of appetite – when a person drinks a partner is usually not hungry – and the other is to help remove fat that can be combined, then along with food plans, combining pairs is a very important adjuvant, "said Dr. Pérez.
Biochemists at Maza University of Argentina presented a series of studies conducted at the University of Mendoza, which showed that yerba mate intake – ideally more than half a liter a day – was associated with a lower incidence of diabetes, hypertension and dyslipidemia. In one study, a significant decrease in triglycerides and total cholesterol was verified by consuming daily mate prepared with 50-100 grams of yerba.

"I think it addresses a topic that is little known and explored in Chilean medicine; and that the effect seems to be coadjuvants from healthy living habits," Mericq said.
Elio Soria, meanwhile, presented an investigation that showed that pair yerba extracts could modify the metabolism of spleen cells to increase resistance to the toxicity produced by arsenic in the water we consume.
Along with this, they report that it has been scientifically proven that consuming mate increases serotonin – like chocolate consumption, for example – so yerba mate enters the list of happiness foods. Along with this, high concentrations of polyphenols have great antioxidant power and cell protection.
Dr. Soria said that in medical careers taught a lot about pathology and their care and little about maintaining health through prevention and herbal medicines. Along these lines, medical students present made positive judgments about the exposure of Argentine professionals.
"I think it is necessary and relevant that our country knows the benefits of partners. As a student, I think it is important to address university problems, medical seminars, because there is still a lot of ignorance about the benefits of this herb," said Laura Hinrichs, a medical student at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
Yerba mate consumption in Chile has increased in recent years in the hands of urban consumption, related to sports and attendance. In 2017, imports increased by 20% and currently neighboring countries represent one of the main export markets of Yerba Mate Argentina, with around 4 million kilos being marketed annually, which places it in the first place among these countries. it is important in this region.
However, ignorance of its benefits and myths about the possible impact still continues. There are still people who think that consuming mate can affect pressure, put the baby at risk in cases of pregnancy or breastfeeding or that can produce acidity, all because of the scarcity of information that we have in the national environment. In this context, INYM has implemented various measures to produce more knowledge about food and add consumers, including Yerba Mate and this first Health Day stand out.
