Energy consumption fell 3.4% year-on-year in October

Demand for electricity fell by 3.4% year-on-year in October, the lowest mark for the month since 2012, the Electricity Development Foundation (Fundelec) reported yesterday.

Of total consumption in October, 40% (3,928.8 GWh) belonged to housing demand, while the commercial sector represented 29% (2,920.4 GWh) and industrial sector 31% (3,025.9 GWh).

Also, in comparison to year-on-year, housing demand fell by -1.3%, while commercial demand fell by -4% and industrial demand showed a larger decline: -5.7%.

Even so, after ten months a year, electricity demand recorded an increase of 1.6%.

As for consumption by country, in October, 18 were provinces and companies that marked a decline: Catamarca (-46%), San Luis (-12%), San Juan (-11%), Chubut (-7%)), Jujuy (-7%), La Rioja (-7%), Tucumán (-6%), Córdoba (-5%), Santiago del Estero (-5%), Eden (-4%), Edes (- 3% ), Entre Ríos (-3%), Santa Fe (-2%), La Pampa (-1%), Mendoza (-1%), among others.

In turn, there are 7 promotions in MEM electricity requirements in Chaco (9%), Santa Cruz (9%), Corrientes (3%), Formosa (3%), Misiones (3%), Edea (1%)), Edelap (1%), among others.

Meanwhile, Río Negro and Salta maintain their consumption levels in a year-on-year comparison, explained Fundelec.

In addition, it shows that the average temperature in October is 17.8º C, whereas in the same month the previous year was 18.2º C, and historically, 17.3º C.

In this context, the local generation showed a decline compared to October 2017, to 10,371 GWh for this month against 10,587 GWh for the same period the previous year. As in the past few months, the share of imports was low when it came to satisfying demand: 25 GWh was imported in October 2018 compared to 13 GWh imported in October 2017.
