Chubut's Health Minister, Adrián Pizzi, confirmed new case of hantavirus in the province, by their number 13 infected since the outbreak was detected in the mountain town of Epuyén, five of them are fatal.
The official said this morning that "the last patient who claimed to be a suspicious case on December 24 to Esquel hospital was confirmed as positive hantavirus After conducting the analysis, which means that the number of confirmed cases is 13 ".
That is about a 27-year-old young man, family member of someone who died by the plague, the evolution has confounded the health authorities by its distribution, which is interpersonal and not through the feces or urine of "long-tailed mice", as is known so far.
"Until now they were taken 180 blood samples to analyze the potential affected and now 40 extractions will be added, "Pizzi explained to Télam, who made an early trip to the mountains to lead the work of a multidisciplinary group.
Blood samples for analysis were brought to the residents of Epuyén who were at a 15-year party where the outbreak began at first, which is added to a community of 4,000 people at risk, plus health workers who intervene directly.
Sanitarian stressed that "everything available to deal with outbreaks is available" and thanked "the national government, Malbrán institutions, sister provinces and even Chilean specialists who worked together at the consultation level."
This virus is transported by the so-called "colilargo rat", a small mouse that is abundant in the Patagonian mountains. Once installed in the human organism, the virus produces strong muscles and headaches, in addition to high fever.
So far the disease has caused five deaths, besides that three internships in intensive care, one in the isolation room and one in the observation room.
The Chubut Health Ministry decided to mobilize a special psychological support plan for the victims of hantavirus and also throughout the Epuyén community.
