Your land is safe, Zweli Mkhize convinces traditional leaders

Overcoming controversial land issues has become a central theme of ANC's weekend campaign in KwaZulu-Natal, with the cooperative government and traditional affairs minister (Cogta) Zweli Mkhize on Sunday moving to dispel fears of traditional leaders – at the same time trying to secure loyalty they when it was time to go to the polls.

Zulu's role of King Goodwill Zwelithini and tribal leaders in managing extensive ancestral lands is still debated.

The move to dissolve Ingonyama Trust and hand over thousands of hectares of traditional land to the state has aroused the impact of Zwelithini, who earlier this year issued a call to defend traditional land.

"I want to start with this land problem … we agree that land is a big problem for black people," Mkhize said on Sunday.

"No need to worry about your land because it's safe. There was a recent conversation that made leaders think their land would be taken. I want to explain that this is not the case, "he said.
